The PRES STEM Committee is excited to announce that we have begun the process of looking for STEM Day volunteers forPointers Run's STEM Day on April 9, 2014.  Any parents that would be interested in running an activity in either Science, Technology, Engineering or Math should contact the STEM representative associated with the grade they are interested in presenting below. Presentations should last about 45 minutes and include a hands-on experience for students' engagement. If you are interested in presenting but don't have an activity in mind we will be happy to provide one for you. Any general questions can be directed at Jessica Brown jessica_brown@hcpss.org or Cara Scott cara_scott@hcpss.org.

The 5th Annual Pointers 5K FUN RUN will take place on Saturday, April 26th. This is a family event open to anyone!  Registrants that sign up by April 4th will be guaranteed a T-shirt.  T-shirt and race number pick up is on Wednesday, April 23rd; 7:30-9 AM and 3:45-5 PM.

Registration for New Students and Students Entering Kindergarten for the 2014-2015 School Year

Children entering KINDERGARTEN in the fall of 2014 must have been born between September 2, 2008 and September 1, 2009.  Children entering GRADE 1in the fall of 2014 must have been born between September 2, 2007 and September 1, 2008.  Children born between September 2, 2008 and October 13, 2008 MUST APPLY FOR EARLY ADMISION TO 1ST GRADE regardless of where they completed Kindergarten.  Parents or legal guardians are to register students at the school currently serving the address at which the child’s parent or guardian resides. Parents of children born outside of the US, and/or for whom English is not the primary language spoken in the home, should contact the International Student Registration Center at 410-313-1525(English/Korean) or 410-313-7102 (English/Spanish) for registration. Parents may call the Public Information Office at 410-313-6682, or they may check the “School and Bus Locator” via the school system website,www.hcpss.org for more information on which school serves their residence.

Below is a list of required documents needed to register your child at any Howard County Public School. Students entering Kindergarten must turn 5 years old by September 1, 2014.

The custodial parent, with the following documents, must register students:

1.   Birth Certificate or Passport as child’s proof of birth
2.   Parent Photo ID(driver’s license, passport, etc.)
3.    Proof of Residency(any ONE of the following):
a.   Deed or Deed of Trustif you have been in your home for more than more than 90 days (with all required signatures) or,
b.   Signed settlement papers once you have settled on your home or,
c.   Current Lease if you are leasing a house or apartment, showing parent names and expiration date
4.   Any one of the followingUtility Bills (showing property address, parent name, current date):
a.   BG&E
b.   Telephone (land line only)     
c.    Water Bill     
d.   Comcast Cable
6. Proof of Immunizations (even if not current, must have Dr.’s signature or office stamp).
7. Legal proof of custody (court order) If applicable.

¨  If you have not settled on your home you must contact Maryann Thomas at 410-313-6997.

¨  If you live with another family intheir home you must contact PPW Cathy Henry at 410-313-7335 to fill out a Multi-Family Form.

¨ Children not born in the USA? – Parent will need to contact the Office of International Student Services @ 410-313-7101 or 7102 to start the registration process.
