Kindergarten
       Registration
Registration for New Students and Students Entering Kindergarten for the 2013 - 2014 School Year

Registration for new students or students entering public school kindergarten in August 2013, will be held in all Howard County public elementary schools Monday through Friday, Feb. 25 – March 1, 2013.  Pointers Run Elementary School will hold registration between 10:00am and 2:00 pm.  Additionally PRES will hold registration on February 13 and 14 from 1:15 – 6:15pm during conference nights.

 Kindergarten is mandatory in Maryland. State law requires that children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2013 must be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2013. Children entering first grade in the fall of 2013 must be six (6) years old on or before September 1, 2013. Parents or legal guardians are to register students at the school currently serving the address at whichthe child’s parent or guardian resides. Parents of children born outside of theUS, and/or for whom English is not the primary language spoken in the home, should contact the International Student Registration Center at 410-313-1525(English/Korean) or 410-313-7102 (English/Spanish) for registration. Parents may call the Public Information Office at 410-313-6682, or they may check the“School and Bus Locator” via the school system website, www.hcpss.org for more information on which school serves their residence.
   

New Student Kindergarten (FEBRUARY 25 – MARCH 1) REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

Below is a listof required documents needed to register your child at any Howard County Public School.

 PRES will begin accepting registrations on February 13 and 14 (conference days) from 1:15 -  6:15 to make it easier for parents. 

 The custodial parent, with the following documents, must register students:
1.   Birth Certificate or Passport as child’s proof of birth
2.   Parent Photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.)
3.            Proof of Residency (any ONE of the following):

a.   Deed or Deed of Trust if you have been in your home for morethan more than 90 days (with all required signatures) or,

b.   Signed settlement papers once you have settled on yourhome or,

c.    Current Lease if you are leasing a house or apartment, showing parent names and expiration date
4.   Anyone of the following Utility Bills(showing property address, parent name, current date):
a.   BG&E
b.   Telephone(land line only)     
c.    WaterBill     
d.   ComcastCable
6.      Proofof Immunizations (even if notcurrent, with Dr.’s signature or office stamp).
7.            Legalproof of custody (court order) Ifapplicable.

 If you have not settled on your home you must contact Maryann Thomas at 410-313-6997.

If you live with another family in their home you must contact PPW Betsy Rice at 410-313-7478 to fill out a Multi-Family Form.

Children not born in the USA? – Parent will need to contact the Office of International Student Services @ 410-313-7101 or 7102 tostart the registration process.

PREKINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

The Pointers Run Regional Early Childhood Center (RECC) toddler and preschool programs are now accepting applications for classes for the 2013-2014 school year.  These classes include children with and without disabilities.  The program focus is helping all children develop communication, literacy, math, problem solving, motor, and social skills.  Parents of children who will be 3 and 4 years of age for the 2013-2014 school year may pick up an application package in the school office beginning February 11, 2013.

All applications must be returned by March 15, 2013. A limited number of openings are available for children without disabilities.  Children are selected based upon screening information given on the application form and the “Ages and Stages Questionnaire,” as well as observations of the childís participation in a playgroup.  If necessary, a lottery process is conducted.
